Mir ist vielleicht ein Beispiel eingefallen, bei dem sich die Betonung unterscheidet:
Ich habe das ein Mal gemacht, und ich werde das auch nicht wieder tun!
Ich habe das einmal gemacht, war nicht so toll.
Ich finde, im ersten Fall betont man tatsächlich beide Silben und im zweiten Fall spricht man das "einmal" etwas beiläufiger, aber wirklich eindeutig ist es nicht.
Ich denke, dass man die Unterscheidung, ob man "einmal" nun zusammen oder getrennt schreibt, nicht von der Betonung abhängig machen kann, sondern nur vom Bedeutungskontext. Meint man das einzige Mal: ein Mal, in allen anderen Fällen: einmal.
